Fifth Wheel Towing!
What’s The Best Setup?

by Kevin Watson

We recently made a video showing how to find out how much your RV weighs and how to use the CAT scales to determine how much your truck weighs and the pin weight of the RV.  We walked through how to use the CAT scale tickets to determine if your truck and RV are within the legal limits, then went a bit further, to show how to use that information to move weight around to maximize the payload of your truck and RV.

The feedback from that video was amazing, but it also sparked a lot of questions from our viewers!  The two questions we were most often asked were, “Where was the fifth wheel plate positioned in the bed?” and “Were the air bags inflated or deflated?”.  This made us question whether or not the position of the fifth wheel hitch, in relation to the rear axle, affected the weight of the truck and if the air bags really make a difference in the distribution of the weight on the truck!

We decided this follow-up video would be a great to answer those questions and more!  We were very surprised by the outcome of some of the tests and think you will be too!
